Yours Clothing have created a body positive campaign through the form of life drawing to encourage women to love themselves regardless of their shape or size.
Yours Clothing utilised relatable plus-sized bloggers to influence their customers to love who they are and to reinforce that there is no wrong way to have a body.
In the campaign, the bloggers share their heartfelt experiences they have had as a result of being plus-sized. They take us on their journeys of self-love and by participating as the models in a life-drawing class, they intend to inspire women to love every inch of themselves too.
We asked Laura Ferry (What Laura Loves) to answer a few questions from why she took part in the campaign to how she felt afterwards.
What was your first impression of the project when you got told about it?
When I first found out about the life drawing project, I felt excited, energise and I couldn’t wait to get on-board. Finally, a campaign that truly and unashamedly celebrates loving yourself unconditionally, without having to change to give yourself permission to do so. Its a campaign for the here and now and one that I thought was so important for a world that continually bombards us with images of what is perceived to be perfection.
Why did you decide to take part in the Life Drawing project?
I decided to take part in the life drawing project because I wanted to inspire other women to love themselves and be confident in their own skin. Body confidence has been a long journey for me, especially as my body shape isn’t one that is typically well represented even in plus size fashion but when I started to live my life for me and love my body for all the great things it has done for me, my life really began. As someone who waited until she was 28 before ever wearing a bikini, I felt as though I had a story to tell.
How did you feel after completing the project?
After completing the life drawing, I felt exhilarated, empowered and like we had all taken one for the team; for all those women who have ever felt like their body wasn’t beautiful. I certainly walked a little taller as I sashayed along the train platform to go home!
What would you say to someone who is feeling insecure about their body?
If you’re feeling insecure about your body, take a look in the mirror and tell yourself 3 things that you love about your body and remind yourself of them everyday. Remember how far your body has taken you in life; its got you to this point, it is beautiful, YOU are beautiful. I waited until I was 28 before ever wearing a bikini and while I don’t like to live my life with regrets, I would have loved to have worn one sooner. I was so caught up in worrying about what other people thought about my body that I forgot to love myself. Insecurity is awful to live with everyday and you deserve to break free from it. Life is far too short; wear the bikini, rock the dress, be thankful for today and love yourself; you’re lush!
